Sitting within the Longford ward of Coventry, Little Heath is a residential area in the county of West Midlands. The Coventry Canal passes through the area, with the towpath accessible from the Old Church Road canal bridge, and the neighbourhood sits within walking distance of the Arena Park Tesco Superstore. The Foleshill fire station is also close by.
Streets and Local Facilities
The residential fabric of Little Heath is made up largely of terraced housing built between around 1910 and 1930. Its main streets include Gayer Street, Thomas Lane Street, Partridge Croft, Quilletts Close, part of Proffitt Avenue, and most of Old Church Road. Proffitt Avenue has a small cluster of local shops including a betting shop, a Chinese takeaway, a beauty salon, a hairdresser, and a newsagent. The Royal Hotel on Old Church Road, beside the canal bridge, is the only pub in the area. Little Heath also contains a former Courtaulds factory, currently being demolished, and the Little Heath Industrial Estate.
Schools and Churches
Little Heath has two primary schools within its boundaries. Little Heath Primary School shares its sports field with Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Primary School, whose parish church is St. Elizabeth’s RC Church in Edgwick. The Church of England congregation is served by St Laurence’s, which also has a church hall used by groups including the Brownies and Girl Guides. At the top of Old Church Road is St Laurence’s C of E Primary School, previously known as Foleshill C of E Primary School. Although not in modern-day Foleshill, it takes its name from the historical placement of the church within the Foleshill estate, first recorded in 1086 as land owned by Lady Godiva.
